"I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 14 years ago at the age of 20, over the telephone. I didn’t want MS to stop me living my life.
I, like many others with MS, am faced with hurdles. Some of these hurdles I would describe as bigger than others, but that means I have to learn to jump higher. A few of the obstacles I have faced include fatigue, and issues with sleeping and mobility.
Surrounding myself with positive, friendly people and hanging onto a positive attitude, positive self-talk and a massive amount of family support, I tell myself nothing is going to keep me down.
Completing the outdoor adventure programme Outward Bound, not once but twice, is a good indicator of who I am and what I can achieve. To me MS stands for Mighty Strong."
About Us
Have you considered how being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis would affect you and your loved ones? Please lend us a hand so we can continue to support those with MS in our region.
MS Southland is an organisation that places our clients and their families first, we are here to support people living with a progressive neurological condition.
We offer a wide range of services to support people affected by Multiple Sclerosis. We have two very active Community Educators who cover Southland and Queenstown, supporting, educating, and advocating for people impacted by MS. They also facilitate several activities from our Centre, like social events, exercise classes and walking groups.
We have a comprehensive library and equipment that can be borrowed. Our goals are for community inclusion, connecting with as many people as possible, limiting the feeling of isolation. And awareness, making sure the people in our community know who we are, what we do and where we are.
