FUNDRAISING
$3,000
more encouraged
This is a target, not a requirement. Setting goals is important, and this amount is what MSNZ is aiming for. If you are unable to raise this amount, of course you are still more than welcome to come along. Past participants have found their fundraising peaks during the event, and even after once people see they challenge you have overcome.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL
Minimal, although “medium fitness” is recommended.
You don't need to be a seasoned cyclist to enjoy this tour. While a moderate level of fitness is recommended, the cycling is very achievable on our comfortable e-bikes.
The tour covers around 150km over five days, with most days involving 25–35km of riding. With a tour leader and support vehicle on hand throughout, you can ride as much or as little as you like.
More than just a cycling tour, Cook to Kupe combines spectacular scenery, fascinating history, local culture, and unique experiences that showcase the very best of Northland.
If you have any questions about accesssiblity or non-riding partners, please contact MSNZ at (+64) 3 366 2581 or email damon.rusden@msnz.org.nz.
MSNZ will support you.
We will be available to have a chat if it seems overwhelming, and to provide resources to help you. We have an entire pack ready to go that is filled with great ideas, messaging and contacts.
The money you raise will go to help the more than 5000 people living with MS and their loved ones.
If you would like to nominate a region, you'll join their team and one-third of the profit made from your fundraiser will go to the regional society - making a direct impact in your community.
And there's a real financial incentive. If you organise a fundraising event, collecting the funds and donating personally, you can claim back thirty-three percent on tax. And, if you’re feeling generous, you could even give that money to MSNZ.
COST
$3,450 - all inclusive tour
Including the $900 discount for MS Riders
(and save an additional $250 when registering with a friend!)
Having a mate means having encouragement, especially on days when your legs are tired or your motivation dips, they're right there pushing you forward. That mutual support transforms what could be a solo challenge into a shared adventure where you're both getting fitter, staying motivated, and making the journey together. Plus, you're doubling your impact on MS New Zealand because now two of you are fundraising and riding for a cause.

Our journey begins with a pedal to a secluded nature reserve showcasing internationally renowned geological rock formations, offering a beautiful bushwalk experience. Next, we’ll cycle to Māngungu House, a remarkable historic site perched majestically overlooking the harbour.
Here, history comes alive as we stand at the very spot where the largest signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in the country unfolded, witnessed by a crowd of up to 3,000 people, with over 70 chiefs adding their assent.
We’ll then board the historic Ranui ferry, traversing the tranquil waters of the Harbour to Kohukohu, where we’ll use our electric bikes to get around a lesser-known loop road for incredible views. Upon our return via the car ferry to Rawene, a quaint town bursting with quirky art galleries, and a wealth of history, awaits your discovery.
For two nights, we stay at a hotel on the edge of the Hokianga Harbour with breathtaking views of the sand dunes.

What if I can't keep up with everyone?
With the e-bikes you will be able to keep up with everyone easily. If you do feel tired or have a niggling pain you can hop in the mini van and keep the Tour Leader company for any part of your ride.
The majority of the cycling is on the Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail – which is graded under the NZ Great Rides as easy with a very small section that is a steep switchback downhill. For those who are not confident you could dismount and walk down.
The remainder includes a smooth rail trail, cycle paths, wetland boardwalk, suspension bridges and some short sections on country roads (sealed and unsealed).
Other cycling is on quiet country roads and is optional, but we find most cyclists take up these opportunities and enjoy them. Some of these sections have hills but with an e-bike it is not an issue.
We have a system on the first day where you will drive your car to the final hotel, where there is ample, safe parking.
There are taxis and shuttles which will take you to Paihia.
Bring them along! The more the merrier.
There will be a support van for all particpants (riders and non-riders) and they can experience Northland and all the events the trip has along the way.
